Midget Mk IV: Heritage Reshell/ Presents Extremely Well.
The MG Midget is a lightweight sports car produced by MG from 1961 to 1979.
The car lent heavily on the reputation of the earlier J, D, M & T Types produced by Abingdon around WW2 and was the perfect entry level sports car for a new generation of appreciative young drivers who wanted affordable performance.
By the mid-1970’s British Leyland had to meet US federal regulations, and the new Mk IV Midget was given large black plastic-covered bumpers, an anti-roll bar, 1500cc engine from the Spitfire and an upgraded gearbox. The cocktail of more engine torque and taller gear ratios resulted in faster acceleration (0 to 60 in 12 seconds) and a top speed of over 100mph.
Milestone Classics are very pleased to bring to market this charming and well-presented Heritage re-shelled MG Midget finished in arguably the best colour, British Racing Green, with black trim, including very comfortable/ modern MG TF seats to enhance safety, replacement carpets and a recent black hood.
The history file goes back to 1989 and from this it appears that the MG had. like most examples at this time, slowly deteriorated and by 1996 the MGOC Workshop, after inspection, recommended that the car be used for spares only! The last MOT was in 1997 @ 38, 154 miles.
In 2003 a new owner “bit the bullet” and decided to go for a full restoration - the new shell at that time cost in excess of £9k. The HPI check indicates that the owner also went for a colour change in 2005 from Red to BRG.
The first MOT post restoration was in August 2015 @ 39, 330 miles. Today the Midget has travelled just over 40k miles and really does look well.
The owners eye for detail extends beyond bodywork/ interior into the engine bay which presents very well and has been detailed to a high standard showing many new parts and also includes an electric Kenlowe fan.
On the road the car does not disappoint. We have driven her over 200 miles during the recent hot weather and she has not missed a beat and, like all Midgets, puts an instant smile on the driver's face.
Ready for the next custodian to use, polish and enjoy this is the perfect entry level soft-top classic. Equally at home as an inexpensive, everyday fun car or as a high days & holiday classic when you throw a soft bag in the boot and go on a road trip to blow the cobwebs away.
