Description
Rare and beautiful example of a 1964 Daimler 250 V8 2. 5 litre, original engine number: 7A 4813; replacement engine number 7A1080; chassis No: 1A 4465 BW. The car was purchased in Jersey, UK in 1964 and driven in the UK for 6 months before being exported to Durban. The owner of the car has details of all three previous owners from 1964 to date and the first owner he believes had the car repainted in Maroon from the original Opalescent Grey. There is a lot of recorded history that accompanies the car, including the fact that in about 1984 the original engine broke a piston and connecting rod. As a result, the car was left standing for a while and was resuscitated after a spare sub-assembly was located locally and the original cylinder heads etc. fitted. This is when the engine number changed, but the current owner is in possession of the original engine block. The car was then restored over a period of about three 3 years, including a bare metal repaint to the current Candy Apple Red and a lot of work was done to the engine and automatic transmission. New stainless steel wire rims replaced the original steel wheels. New tan genuine cow hide upholstery was fitted professionally by a specialist along with a new head lining and wool carpets, plus all of the interior wood was re-veneered. A new electric fan was fitted and the list goes on! The car was first shown in its current state at the Johannesburg Vintage & Veteran Club in August 2018 and subsequently at various VVC meetings and breakfasts, Piston Ring Club and Cars in the Park at Swartkops Race Track and always attracts attention due to its rarity. It also has a Jaguar Heritage Certificate.
