1961 Triumph TR3A
One of the most highly regarded sports cars of its period, the Triumph TR3 superseded the TR2 in October 1955. An update was to come in mid 1957 when a full width grille and exterior door handles were fitted. This model was designated TR3A and was available until early 1962, by which time the TR4 had been introduced.
As with other British sports cars of that time, the bulk of production was destined for the highly lucrative North American market, so only a very small percentage of cars were to be sold on the home market. Later models like the example offered here were available with a larger engine with a displacement of 2138cc.
This 1961 TR3A was the subject of a restoration from the bare chassis which was completed some 25 years ago. There is a photograph album showing the stages of the work, along with much additional information. Some £30, 000 was spent on the professional restoration.
This car has featured in Octane, TR Action and Triumph World magazines. It has also been displayed at Goodwood. Approximately 25, 000 miles have been covered subsequently, including a trip to 2022 Le Mans Classic.
Correctly finished in Primrose with black leather trim, this TR presents extremely well and drives as it should, having the 2138cc engine which has benefited from a gas flowed cylinder head, uprated brakes with servo and an anti-roll bar. Set up on a rolling road the engine produced 133 bhp.
Regular maintenance by Harding Auto Services in Woking, has ensured the car stayed in fine order.
The specification also includes a full tonneau cover, overdrive, Moto-Lita steering wheel, luggage rack, alternator and immobiliser.
Very much a car for the enthusiast who appreciates that bit more, this TR is certain to please its next custodian.
More photos and a video will be updated shortly (when it stops raining). These were quickly taken between showers! Photos show her 'just as she arrived' she's yet to be cleaned!
