Description
The Mondial is a rather accomplished grand touring car, that just happens to be a Ferrari!
This is a well-packaged, interestingly engineered junior exotic, that took the idea of the mid-engined coupé with 2+2 seating to its natural conclusion. Best described as a poem in politeness: better appointed, more comfortable, with genuine 2+2 accommodation, and still good for 150mph.
ABOUT THIS CAR
Chassis: ZFFLD14Cthe details below
Engine: F105A02631
Car Build & Specifications: The car was built in Maranello, Feb 1985 and is one of only 152 right-hand drives built in the QV model, so its a pretty rare car. It is a Mondial QV, which succeeded the Mondial 8 and was then superseded by the Mondial 3. 2 and then the Mondial T. However, this car is also very desirable, as it is a facelift model, being built close to the launch of the 3. 2 in mid-1985, so has been factory-fitted with colour-coded Mondial 3. 2 bumpers and lights (rather than the black bumpers of the QV). It also has full Connolly Leather throughout including the dash - all Mondials came from Factory with a black plastic-style dash, so perhaps this was a one-off customer order.
Imported from Singapore, first registered in NZ in 2018.
Refurbishment was completed by The Surgery of Wellington, with over $110K+ spent - all receipts and MANY restoration photos are available for inspection in a dossier with the car. Also, the Surgery is happy to talk to any buyers about the work they've done on this car - they have a global reputation for restorations and were meticulous with this car. They also applied the C. Quartz Finest Reserve full paint protection (Warranty available in the car folder). To return the car to its original condition a number of new or refurbished original parts were sourced from Redbay Cars in Belgium, and Superformance in the UK (receipts included).
This car - its consummately relaxed and stable, immune to clumsiness and indecision, with a smooth and communicative feel that flatters the timid but rewards those who want to engage with it. Yep, the smooth, firm accelerator pedal is perfectly matched to the solidly progressive brake and yep... It makes a perfect fulcrum for a bit of heel-and-toe action when the testosterone begins to flow, and you start to get a taste for the fast, metallic and precise click-clack action of the gears.
Beyond its stunning condition, the fact that this Mondial is one of just 152 right-hand drive QVs and then a facelift with bumper/ lights from the next model - the 3. 2, plus it has a one off leather interior - we think all this makes it quite special.
Also worth mentioning that arguably the sweet spot in the range can be found in any of the cars produced between 1982 and 1988 because these earlier cars allow servicing of the timing belt and clutch without engine removal, and came fitted with the Quattrovalvole units, producing a more Ferrari-like 240bhp instead of the 214bhp of the very early models.
The world of Ferrari is so very much about status and rarity and in a world where modern Ferraris seem to be getting more offensive on a daily basis, the Mondial is looking better and better all the time; prices will rise, and have done so already.
Car will be sold WOF’d and Registered IF sold in New Zealand.
