This Austin 12 was manufactured at Longbridge at the height of Austin's success. It was the baby Seven that had saved the company from bankruptcy, but the trusty 12 continued right through, gaining in popularity thanks to the comprehensive range on offer and Austin's fine reputation for reliability - 'The Dependable Austin' no less.
The Tourer has been subject to recent recommissioning work including; Dynamo pulley bearing and rubber drive; two new valves and springs; new head gasket; oil change and antifreeze; new exhaust silencer and tail pipe; matching Dunlop tyre fitted to spare wheel; new battery and isolation switch; hidden ignition switch fitted; Zenith carb removed and SU fitted; petrol tank flushed and inline filter fitted; and front brakes re-lined.
This Pre-war Austin drives and presents well, finished in Grey with a Black leather interior and a Black hood. The interior is in fine order, showing no obvious signs of rips or tears. Supplied with side screens and hood, however the hood will require some attention to be fully operational. Mechanically, the Austin starts on the button and runs superbly well thanks to the SU carburettor upgrade. A highly useable pre-war tourer that can be enjoyed for another 95 years to come.
