Description
This delightful Riley 1. 5 Saloon has come to us from one of our local long term regular customers. Manufactured and first registered in 1964, the Riley only spent its first ten years on the road and its 1973 tax disc remains with the car. 2048 DW then spent 17 years laid up in a garage before being purchased by the car second owner in late 1991 who was living on the Isle of Skye. In 1992 the Riley was fully re-commissioned, restored as necessary and kept as original as possible. The Riley was then used sparingly throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s having typical classic car use.
The Riley stayed in its second ownership for around 25 years and between 2017 and 2021 was once again sympathetically re-commissioned and subject of various detailing work and improvements. A host of invoices are on file for parts and before being sold to the last owner, our local customer the Riley was put through an MOT at 31680 miles. Our customer has owned the car for three years and has covered around 500 local miles.
2048 DW was driven over to us and the car performs very well. It has a strong, fit and healthy engine and gear changes are lovely and smooth. The steering is precise, brakes pull up nicely and the car is a reliable, very usable example. The car has been painted in its lifetime, the finish is bright and is well presented. The car does retain a lot of originality, the interior appears very well kept, the engine bay is lovely and importantly the Riley is structurally excellent. This isn't a show winning car, its more an honest, well cared for example that has clearly been used sparingly over its entire life. Its ideal for regular use, weekend fun and is most certainly well-presented enough to attend local shows and be a car to be proud of.
