Description
motodrome offer for sale this magnificent 1997 Land Rover Defender 130 300TDi Pulse Ambulance, that has been superbly converted into a proper overlander by the team behind CamperHus, who are well known for their quality Land Rover conversions.
All the VIN numbers are in the right place and visible, making this one eminently US exportable
It was built to the specification of the last owners, who bought the best available Pulse out of 15 they had professionally inspected at L Jackson & Co, the MOD surplus outlet, in 2020. It was sent to CamperHus with the brief to enable them, as a couple with their two dogs, to travel and work as digital nomads anywhere they wanted to, and for the last 3 years and around 50000km around Europe, that’s exactly what they’ve done, making some amazing memories along the way.
Finished in Land Rover Tuscan Blue raptor, the external spec includes
CamperHus Hi-top roof conversion with 2 marine-spec sliding roof hatches and solar panel
Ostrich Wing 270 degree awning
Security grilles over sliding windows on the camper body
60 litre water tank
LPG underslung tank to power cooker/ heater.
Civilian doors with wind up windows and Optimill handles and security hinges
LED headlights (which double up as DRL’s)
240V mains hookup
360 degree cameras
Slam security locks on the rear door
Cycle rack, grey water tank and external stowage
Steering guard
Wolf HD rims with a matching set of BFG tyres
Whilst there are internal cooking facilities, on opening the rear doors, the original stretcher lifters have been converted into foldable worksurfaces, and there are gas and water points, meaning cooking and eating can also be done in the open air or under the awning, weather permitting.
The drivers cab has 2 puma Defender cloth seats, centre cubby box, full Wolf floor soundproofing/ insulation kit, Optimill removeable steering wheel with lockable centre boss cover, stowage for the cover, lighting, and a table that stows up against the headlining.
Inside the camper body, the conversion was done by CamperHus to a very high standard, but has also benefitted from 3 years of ‘in the field’ testing and improvement to see what works and what doesn’t, to the extent that it’s now a very efficient place for 2 people to explore the world.
It’s set up with seating that has multiple configurations including table seating, twin day beds, but then converts into a double bed. Also
sink,
space for cooking with a portable gas cooker
fridge/ freezer
shower room / toilet
twin leisure batteries with Victron battery management system
Variable lighting system with spotlights and LED strip and plinth lighting
And masses of very clever storage solutions throughout, including the over-cab area.
Being essentially a Wolf, it’s powered by the venerable and totally dependable 300TDi engine, with R380 5-speed gearbox, power steering, and disc brakes all round. Mechanically it’s been converted to 12V for ease of maintenance, but also fitted with
Larger intercooler
Uprated oil pump and bigger sump
Air-locking rear diff
Koni shocks all round with HD roll bars and steering bar
LOF light action clutch
HD starter, alternator, steering bar, halfshafts and drive flanges
You won’t find a better, more thought out example on sale at the moment in my opinion.
Driving-wise, it’s absolutely on the button.
The odometer reading is 96000km which, whilst being an ex-military vehicle we can’t warrant, is likely to be correct as it’s had just the one keeper since being registered.
It comes with MOT to April 2025, and a huge file of history setting out what’s been done to it at great expense to make it the superb overlander you see today. Recent work includes
New LOF clutch and gearbox reconditioned Mar 24
New injectors, injection pump and cambelt Aug 23
Plus of course regular servicing – last done Mar 24
On our own website you’ll find 3 videos, a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, plus one more video of the interior
