Description

This very well known car, now for sale for the first time in 71 years, was bought in 1953 by David Thirlby (DT), a man renowned in Frazer Nash circles, responsible for lifting and promoting the name of the marque and helping to ensure its enduring success and popularity.

The car was originally built as a Super Sports model but was overturned by the second owner—John Bolster—when cornering too quickly in about 1932, The Works then rebodying it as a Boulogne—the body that it carries today. It was changed to four speed transmission at the same time.

The car, always referred to by DT as “the good and faithful Anzani” was used very extensively. DT started the well known series of Raids to the Alps with the car in 1969 and subsequently used it on every Raid until he died. The car was then taken over and used by DT’s daughter Dorinda and she continued to use it in the same way, driving to Bolzano and also being part of a small team of the marque covering 1000 miles in 24 hours.

The files that accompany the car are very extensive and detailed, even including a small hand written notebook. There are also many great photographs covering the last 71 years .

DT replaced his non-original Anzani engine when it suffered damage to the crankcase, but in recent years Dorinda was offered the original Anzani (number S. S 4881) by a gentleman in Australia and this dismantled engine, with its damaged crankcase, is included in the sale.

This sale of PH 3682 offers an opportunity to own not only a genuine example of the marque but also a car with very significant history within the Club.
