Just arrived with us here at RFH Classics we have this stunning 1978 (S) Ford Escort Mexico 1. 6 finished in classic Diamond White with the Black cloth sports trim. In our opinion the pictures cannot capture the true extent of the work this car has undergone following a lengthy and meticulous nut-and-bolt restoration that was completed around 12 years ago by the previous owner and resulting in it being brought back to pristine condition. Since the completion of the work the car has been dry stored with no use which shows with every detail being attended too and making it an immaculate example of this iconic model.
Under the bonnet sits the lively 1600cc overhead cam Pinto engine with its distinctive blue accents that delivered the spirited performance and unmistakable charm that defines the Escort Mexico lineage. The engine, when new, produced 95bhp at 5750 rpm and needed certain modifications in order to fit into the standard Escort MK2 body shell which included an aluminium alloy sump and engine mounts.
The MK2 Mexico was produced from November 1975 to July 1978 and was a replacement for the successful MKI Mexico. It was a niche car that was priced and specified between a 1600 Sport and an RS2000. Only around 2, 500 Mk2 Mexico’s were sold and this example shows the previous owner having the car since 1999 and making it a rare and highly sought-after model for either collectors or enthusiasts looking for a piece of automotive history in exceptional form.
