Description
This car has only travelled 833 miles since new in 1949.
After agonising for the last couple of years whether to sell this car, I have decided that my MGTC needs to be in a collection preferably in the UK where people can see it and appreciate it. The original mileage of the vehicle is just 833 miles - yes just 833 original miles.
This car was built in July 1949, shipped to South Africa and purchased by a collector who registered the car and I’m told only used it on the MG car Club track. He didn’t keep it for long and on-sold it to a collector who added it to his collections of Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Porsche, and of course the MG along - with a 1957 MGA
Following the collectors death, the car was relocated to New Zealand along with the rest of the collection by his Son when they immigrated. That was September 1998, and the car has never been registered for the road in New Zealand. It still has the original South African plates and the original registration sticker on the windscreen – which expired in December 1991 With ailing health, the Son (who has since passed away) then decided to sell off most of the collection about 6 or 7 years ago and this car was subsequently purchased by me as the current owner.
It has matching numbers and has been thoroughly inspected by a very well recognised classic car expert here in New Zealand, and he has said there is no doubt the mileage is correct and the car genuine.
The car starts and runs well, and on a very short drive the gearbox appears to be in great condition. The brakes were all checked, and seals were replaced as necessary due to their age about 6 years ago.
As the car was sitting around for many years without use, the paint on the wheels deteriorated. I had them all powder-blasted and repainted in the original colour matched with 2 pot paint. Five new tyres were fitted at the same time as the original tyre sidewalls were quite seriously perished – although the tread was still new.
The car’s authenticity is able to be verified by an independent classic car valuer. It has not been restored and doesn’t need it. It appears one back guard may have been lightly touched up – to be expected with the car sitting around for so long. All of the upholstery, carpets etc are original and the side screens are still like new (not even sure they have ever been used)
I would like to see the car go into a collection in the UK or Europe where it can be appreciated. It would be sad to see it registered and used with such low mileage. I am not aware of a lower mileage TC in the world.
I have a lot of photos I can send and would be happy to do a live walk-a-round the car on Zoom.
Asking price: £45, 000. Price includes safe shipping to UK Port – 20’ container.
If you know someone in New Zealand (car is based in Auckland) who could look at the car for you, I would be more than happy to show them the car
Please contact me at any time on E-mail - using the button below ; Zoom call, WhatsApp, or my cell phone: the details below. I bought this car because I had wanted one since I was 17 years old. I am now 74.
I served my apprenticeship as an Auto Electrician on Austin, Morris, MG etc. When I saw this car, I immediately recognised all of the original factory coloured wiring and knew immediately this was a very authentic car.
I love the car, but with such a low mileage, it was too good to use. I have an MGB Roadster to drive when out with the Auckland MG Car Club.
I would love to see the car go into a public display showroom if possible.
