Description
Beautiful 504 coupé from the 1st and finest series. Equipped with extensive history including lots of maintenance bills and MOT forms. Delivered new in Seregno and after many sunny years the 504 was imported to the Netherlands in 2005 by a Peugeot enthusiast.
The rare coupé was professionally repainted in the Netherlands in 2015 in the original colour "Bleu Vert Métallisé 1305" and the quality of the paintwork is of a high standard. The metallic paint looks very clean with a deep shine. It is a great colour anyway, especially in combination with the blue interior. Also, thanks to the 15-inch Cromodora alloy wheels, it just looks top notch. Fortunately, the beautiful TRX look-a-like rims are suitable for normal tyres and feature Michelin Cross Climate tyres with snowflake on the sidewall. Very handy for a winter rally!
Thanks to Dinitrol treatment in the past, the car is rock hard and gore-free. Anyway, when the 1st series was built, they used higher-quality steel and were therefore more resistant to rust. Unfortunately, due to cost cuts, it got worse after that. The body was designed and built by Pininfarina, and after all these years it remains a timelessly elegant beauty. What a masterpiece; stylish and never obtrusive.
The interior is very original, the blue velour upholstery sits nice and snug, and the seats and rear seats look tidy. The upholstery is not discoloured, which is very unusual after 54 years. In fact, that is exceptionally rare and a sign that the 504 has slept inside. The seats have been newly padded in the past and are remarkably firm. There is a spot on the left backrest that deserves attention. The headlining is remarkably neat and hangs nice and tight. The dashboard has been modified for serious rally driving and a main power switch has been fitted.
Not only has the 504 been excellently maintained, many things have been modified and improved, making the car even more fun to drive and ready for any rally. Invoices worth €23, 740.- are present and everything is excellently documented. Besides regular maintenance, the following items have been replaced or rally prepared:
Hydraulic handbrake, limited slip differential, custom wiring with 12V usb, mass switch and map reading light, heavy duty cooling, electric petrol pump, 80A alternator, new shock absorbers, wheel bearings, steering balls, the mentioned Michelin tyres, new sports exhaust, revised suspension and much more. Also towing eyes front and rear Cibie spotlights, split + original front bumper, etc, etc.
The original engine has been replaced by a reliable 4 cylinder with 5-speed gearbox from the 505. As you know, classic Peugeot engines have an excellent reputation; strong, reliable and then modern and economical. And thanks to the new carburettor, you have fewer maintenance costs and fewer worries. Thanks to the 5-speed gearbox, the 504 makes little revs on the motorway, so excellent for long distances. By the way, driving is delightful thanks to the fully independent suspension and extremely smooth suspension.
The 504 was the car of the year in 1969. This French Mercedes was technically far above its other mid-range competitors. The sedan and estate were the best-selling middle-class cars in Europe for a very long time. Now there are almost no copies left, as the 504 was a popular export car to Africa. The coupé was exclusive and extremely rare even then, and this C12 is almost impossible to find anymore.
