Description

The SS100 model was introduced by SS Cars in 1936 with styling similar to its predecessor, the SS90, but with sportier performance achieved through revisions to the 2. 7-liter engine. Its name referenced the car’s theorized top speed of 100 mph, which was achieved by a 3. 5-liter variant that joined the model lineup before production ceased upon the outbreak of World War II. Both SS100 variants featured a modified version of the SS saloon chassis with a wheelbase shortened to 2, 642mm.
This 1938 Jaguar SS100 was completed on June 28, 1938 and is one of fewer than 200 examples built with a 2½-liter engine during a four-year production run.
The early history is not known, besides the SS100 was build in June 1938 and despached to Henley‘s of London and supplied to the first owner Mr. H. J. Pye.
The car is powered by a correct type 2, 663cc OHV inline-six and is also equipped with twin SU carburetors, a four-speed gearbox, 18” wire wheels shot with Dunlop tires, Girling drum brakes, tan leather upholstery, and a black soft top.

This example left the factory finished in gray and received a color change to its current black during a refurbishment carried out approximately 30 years ago. The overall condition oft he paintwork is still extremly good, with only a handfull touth-ups, and a few small dents (that can be corrected quite easily on the aluminium body). Features include a louvred hood, low-cut doors that open rearward, headlight stone guards, a fold-down windshield ahead of Brooklands windscreens, chrome wire wheels, a black canvas soft top, and black tonneau top.
The overall condition oft he car is extremly well, with the right patina after 30 years since restoration. To be noticed ist hat the knob for changing the tank from normal to reserve is however not connected.
The for the moment first known history is in the USA, August 1982 when the car was owned Dr. M. R. Springer Hot Springs Arkansas, and he registed the car at the Classic Jaguar Association Register in the USA. Mr. Springer sold the car to a trader in Arizona Terry Larson. The SS100 was sold on to Mr. Chris Williams.
Mid 1980’s the car returned, in an unrestored condition, tot he UK. In 1988 the SS100 a restoration was started. There are detailed reports on file of this restoration of mainly the chassis and engine from September 1988 trough March 1989, totalling £12. 867, 07. After this part restoration the car was bought by Coys of Kensington and offered for sale, where the buyer could choose details like colour of the upholstry. By end of February 1991 a new customer was found and a sales price agreed for the SS100 in a completed restored condition. By June 1991 the car was ready to be shipped to ist new proud owner in Switzerland, with a recorded milage of 12. 237.
The new Swiss owner ended up having the car fort he next 30 odd years till his dead, using the car only sparingly for short trips. Documented milages are:
June 1991 Miles: 12. 237
July 1992 Miles: 12. 342
February 2011 Miles: 13. 971
May 2015 Miles: 14. 035
April 2021 Miles: 14. 161
September 2021 Miles: 14. 329
Actual milage Miles : 14781

During this period the car was maintained well, there are invoices on file for this period totalling CHF. 27. 700 , as well as an invoice in GBP. For £ 1. 963,=
By the end of 2022 the family descided to sell the the SS100, after covering a merge 2353 Miles in 30 years!
The car comes with a Swiss registration, and a „veteranen prüfung“ ( very strickt Swiss testing for classic cars) of August 2021, and valid for 6 years.
