Now SORN'd till next spring and REDUCED again for a quick sale it- looks and drives great
I bought this last summer and then soon after ruptured my Achilles tendon on my left leg and was therefore unable to drive this at all. I have only just started driving it sparsely recently. It was an impulse buy as I had one in my youth and hoped to keep it for my son or daughter. However I have now realised that I have far too many cars and it will be a long time before my kids can get insurance on it ( I have asked various companies and most say minimum age of 30, both of my kids are not even 20 yet), so am putting it up for sale.
It is in great condition due to:
Full body restoration including full repaint – no rust on the car at all unlike a lot out there.
Full interior restoration – all seats/ door cards etc. re-trimmed, new carpets/ mats.
New reconditioned/ restored engine, ancillaries, loom, sub frame, tank, brakes, wheels/ tyres and new roof, the list goes on and on.
This restoration was done over a 2-3 year period and I have receipts for over £15, 000 and that does not include the respray, new roof, wheels, tyres, exhaust etc. These items I believe would be around £5k+ hence I believe it has had around £20k restoration. I have a Footman James agreed valuation of £20, 000 insurance certificate.
All the work was carried out by the following three places: - P. A. Toulmin – Retro and Custom specialists in Windsor – Receipts for £5, 827. 48
AJ’s Trimmings – Bucks – Cheshire – Receipts for 2, 330. 00 – I have a roll of spare leather to go with the car if you ever need it to use it elsewhere on the car.
Onlynine – Cheshire – Receipts £2, 277. 00 and the original engine, ancillaries and loom was part of the deal otherwise it would be close to £5K.
The rest of the restoration receipts are mainly for parts form:-
The Porscheshop – Worcestershire, Porsche Centre – Reading, Design 911 UK – Brentwood, Prestige Parts – Plymouth, Hamilton Car spares – Folkestone, Partworks GmbH – Germany, Werk One Original – Blackburn. These parts for receipts total around £5000.
Hence my earlier assertion that it has had around £20k restoration. Around £15k of receipts and the already mentioned respray, new roof, wheels, tyres, exhaust etc to the value of around £5k. It also has plenty of receipts for work done prior to all this, in total it has a few inches thick of receipts, old mot’s etc. New Michelin tyres all round on excellent Porsche cup alloys. I have a roll of spare leather from the interior retrim.
It has an advisory free MOT till November 2024 and drives really well. It feels very solid and planted, no oil leaks. The condition, white paint, excellent piped interior etc turns heads and gets compliments all the time. It has a modern radio that has Bluetooth/ Aux etc so can play Spotify, take phone calls etc. It comes with an immaculate tonneau cover, wind deflector, Porsche tool kit, air compressor and two keys that fit all locks. New full stainless steel exhaust.
It may not be for the purists due to the replacement engine, number of owners and it was stolen recovered in June 1998.
However, if you want a last of the line 944 S2 convertible that is a joy to drive then this is worth looking at. It is now 32 years old and will therefore have the odd niggle, nothing serious at all, just being 100% honest and transparent.
People are asking £4-6K for spares/ repairs and basket cases cars, this is a well sorted example to be driven and enjoyed with peace of mind.
NIGGLES: Fuel gauge moves but not accurate. Central locking makes the noises but not working, assuming a disconnected rod. Roof is electric and was working until I fiddled with speaker wires and it stopped can only assume wire in the back of the switch might have come off. I have converted roof to manual, I prefer it, down and up in a couple of seconds. The odometer has stopped but speedometer/ Tacho etc all working so think senor on gearbox. Excellent oil pressure, 5 on the motorway, 4. 5 around town and 3. 5 idle.
I have sold a few of my other cars already but only selling as I need to start driving some of my other cars, including my BMW 840 (4. 4) Ci Sport amongst others, it has been sitting for over a year now, I cannot neglect it any longer and do not want it to deteriorate. I would keep the 944 but the same thing will happen to it if left unused.
I have no doubt that whoever views and drives it will buy it. Now substantially reduced again. Took it to Knebworth Classic car show last week and got so much attention. Reasonable/ genuine offers considered.
