Description
This exquisite matching numbers J2 comes with full history and has been the subject of a methodical service and upgrade program since being part of a collection held by a Perth enthusiast. Papers that come with the car show it was built on November 14, 1932 and registered on December 1, 1932. It was bought by a dealer as a demonstrator until being sold to a lady buyer in England. Queensland car dealers Giltrap bought it from this family meaning it has only four owners in its life. Only 2083 examples of the J2 were made, more popular than the preceding J1 and subsequent J3 and J4 models. The J2 has its original engine and chassis, with the 847cc engine’s overhead cam driven through a vertical generator. The engine is a crossflow design with two SU carburettors. Upgrades and maintenance include an overhaul (started in 2014) of the engine and fitting of superior strength Phoenix crank and rods. The chassis has also been restored. It has a near-new (2017) four-into-two-into-one ceramic-coated exhaust extractor system and a modified generator seal that prevents oil seeping from the top of the engine and through the generator. Features include Whitworth Rudge 19-inch wire wheels with 4. 00 4-ply tyres (the spare is a Davies Balloon tyre, believed to be fitted when the car was new); mechanical (cable) brakes with finned drum brakes; lever-friction dampers; fold-down full windscreen with Brooklands aeroscreen for the driver; machines aluminium dash with eight-hour electric clock; leather cushions and single backrest (green patina); and roof and wet weather gear. The speedometer shows 5775 miles. The car is finished in the original two-tone green paint. It comes complete with a custom-made trailer giving the owner access to club events and displays. The car is on concessional license plates. Inspection is in Perth southern suburbs. Additional information and photographs are available. Transport to any buyer location and inspection reports can be arranged at the buyer's cost. While information supplied for this listing has been taken in good faith, prospective buyers should undertake their own research and investigation before purchase.
