Up for grabs here is my 1974 Volkswagen 412 Variant estate.
I’ve owned this car for coming up 4 years and have used it as my sole vehicle in all that time.
It was imported from South Africa in 2016 and was dry stored up until I bought it back in 2020.
Not long after I got my hands on it I spent nearly £4000 putting a brand new 2litre engine in it that I bought from the VW engine company (I have a bunch of receipts from this) as the original engine was definitely a bit tired after over 40 years of use!
As I said, I’ve used this car as a daily driver since ownership and wouldn’t hesitate in getting in it and driving it anywhere…it’s a great car and I’ve had a load of great camping trips and fun out of it. It really will be a shame to see it go but all good things come to an end eventually!
The sills at the bottom of both doors are pretty rough but with a weekend of work or with the help of a tame welder you could have your hands on a completely rot free and mechanically sound classic that you can just get in and drive. I believe the sills from a Volvo 740 fit perfectly and can be picked up pretty cheap.
It drives as you would imagine a 50 year old car drives but turns heads wherever it goes and is MOT and tax exempt and dirt cheap to insure.
It had a brand new set of disks on the front about a year back and a new set of drums on the rear a couple of weeks ago so gets up, moves and stops as it should.
As you’re probably aware they only made these for two years so good examples are getting harder and harder to find. I have a bunch of spares including glass, a mint tailgate, taillights and another set of wheels that fill out the arches a bit better than the original blue set, all of which can be quite hard to get your hands on.
I’m only putting it up for sale as there’s something else I’d like to move quite quickly on and could do with some cash in my pocket so not particularly interested in any part ex’s unfortunately…if you have anything of interest I can only say no though!
