Description
2006 Black Mazda RX8 PZ. 75k miles. No issues. MOT till 07/ 25. Prodrive special.
Note: lots of questions about the registration. I’d accept £5k for the car WITH the R87ARY registration. Make me an offer...
The only RX8 actually appreciating is the PZ special by Prodrive - IYKYK, if you don't then go google it. The R87ARY registration "can" come with the car but for an additional price (Negotiable but i've been offered £1k twice at fuel stations in the last 2 years). Over the 12k miles i've driven, it's been amazing reliable and robust with, prior to this Septembers work, it only requiring a replacement £10 drop-link, tyres, fuel and some oil.
Forget all the rubbish you hear about all RX8's being rubbish, they're not if properly maintained.
Notes
• 74799 miles but increasing as used all the time.
• The car is located in Sutton, Surrey, SM1
• I shan't be handing the keys to anyone for a test but if you're serious, then a demonstration can be arranged with me driving.
Important dates
• Clean MOT till July 2025
• Engine rebuild at 57k miles in 2017
• Oil (Millers mineral oil) and filter change September 2024
• New spark plugs September 2024
• New Intake Solenoids in September 2024 (This was the recent MOT MIL light issue)
Good things
• 2 fully working remote locking keys.
• Big Service history folder.
• ULEZ compliant.
• Very minimal rust, and this was commented on at its recent service at an RX7/ 8 specialist.
• No hot start issues as can be seen in the attached video.
• Bilstein shocks all working perfectly and no signs of wear or leaks.
• Fuel economy is not an RX8 strong point but I did see 31. 8mpg once, on a 60mph run in the rain on motorways, though over my 5 1/ 2 years ownership, it's averaged 21. 3mpg. On a cruise it sees a consistent 24mpg without trying. Around town, more like 20. In fuel terms, it's cost me £0. 29 per mile. Happy to pass on the Excel records of fuel fillups to the next owner.
• Uses about 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles which is on a par with most cars, and lower than many other performance ones.
• I pre-mix with 2-stroke oil every other fuel fillup, again - google it.
• I bought the car off an aircraft engineer who serviced Airbus A380 engines at Heathrow and was determined to maintain the car in excellent health.
• Kept on a CTEK battery conditioner at all times to preserve the battery health and ensure instant cold startups.
• 4 matching Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres all with at least 5mm of tread across the tyre surface,
• I replaced the passenger airbag cover when the last recall at Mazda was completed for the fuel pump and Takata airbags. The splitting vinyl is a very very common issue on RX8s but as you see in the photograph, this one is perfect.
• I recently replaced the rear-view mirror with a new item as the glass was delaminating.
• Has the upgraded BOSE sound system which is pretty awesome.
• The air-conditioning runs very cold.
• The catalytic converter has been swapped for a by-pass pipe as Cats are frequently stolen from cars in London. It comes with the CC though so you can swap it back if you want. Note - with the decat, you get 40 cm long flames and bangs on the over-run so if that's your thing...
• Looking back through the MOT history, it's amazing how clean it is, but again - that's evidence of considerate, careful ownership and a lot of mechanical sympathy.
• Interior leather is in excellent condition, some wear on the drivers side bolster.
Spares and extras worth £2850 (These can be purchased and added to the agreed vehicle price)
• 5th matching OZ wheel in a bag with a good tyre £150
• Mazda RX8 spacesaver wheel £100
• R87ARY registration £2500
• Camera, heads-up display and very effective bluetooth to FM transmitter £100
• Catalytic converter £0
• Replacement passenger side glovebox drop-down as the one in place has a scratch on it. Might replace this if I get around to it. £0
Bad things
• The body is good but not perfect though more than acceptable for an 18 year old car. It would benefit from a detail and MOP which I think would bring the paint back to its once lustrous Brilliant Black finish.
