Beautiful Classic Piaggio Vespa Collection being sold as a lot of four bikes.
Being sold from my private collection of Classic Italian Motorcycles, as I have ultimately made the decision to sell off my entire collection inventory, including my Vespa Collection.
After many years of actively collecting and enjoying a multitude of classic Vespas, I have decided to list my entire collection to be sold as a lot to a single buyer.
The collection on offer comprises of the following models;
1962 Vespa 150GL
1976 Vespa Sprint 150 Veloce
1978 Vespa P200E
1981 Vespa P150X
The entire collection is in superb running condition, are unmolested and present in flawless aesthetic order.
Vespas are today a symbol of Europe, a symbol of mobility and freedom back in the 60s and 70s, now the darling of the trendy middle and upper classes.
Owning and riding a classic Vespa is just super cool, today there are many dedicated Vespa owners’ clubs and specialists. Vespa ownership has become a lifestyle, an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in true retro fashion.
Vespa have also proven an excellent place to invest your money, as the return on investment grows at a yearly rate that few call accounts can offer, not forgetting the smile factor of course!
As is clear to see from the images, these are not your typical, tired, and neglected Vespas, but a little piece of a cherished and hand-picked collection.
South Africa enjoys a temperate and dry climate, with dry and unsalted roads, thus all four bikes are completely dry and free of any rust issues.
An amazing number of new opportunities await the potential new owner, be it, keep the collection as it is, or to otherwise trade in these special bikes, as vintage Vespa rentals are a booming tourist business.
Polished to brilliance and frequently run, these bikes are prime specimens;
1962 Vespa 150GL;
The oldest of the bikes on offer from my collection, and a proper collectible vintage Vespa.
The 150 GL or Grande Lusso, is a lovely bike, I originally purchased the Vespa from the second owner, a Vespa Specialist, whom had acquired it from the original owner many years prior.
The Grande Lusso was the first Vespa to feature a trapezoidal headlamp, a design feature later carried to the 150 Sprint.
The Vespa is in glorious and fully restored order, it is a prize-winning bike, and received an award at the South African Vespa Nationals, as “Best in class”
The Vespa turns heads wherever you ride it and always gets an enthusiastic thumbs up from onlookers. Truly a remarkable and special bike.
The GL has benefitted from the following work;
• Professional restoration done. (2022)
• Major service just done (2024)
• New tyres
1976 Vespa Sprint 150 Veloce;
Another sweetheart of the collection, from a limited run of Veloces (Italian for fast) comes the 150 Sprint Veloce.
I am the third owner, having purchased the Vespa from a Cape Town based Vespa afficionado and restorer some years ago.
The Sprint runs superbly, it is an easy handling Vespa and has adequate grunt. Getting on the saddle of this bike inspires confidence, and just reaffirms why we all love our Vespas. It is a class act.
It is an exquisite bike in perfect condition.
The Veloce has benefitted from the following work;
• Professional restoration done (2020)
• Major service just done (2024)
• New tyres
1978 Vespa P200E;
The P200E offers 200CC’s of unadulterated two stroke fun, for sheer power and usability this has always been my go-to Vespa.
Purchased several years ago from a local Stellenbosch based Vespa restoration shop, the big 200 is a gem.
The P200E also features electronic ignition, adding another layer of cruising reliability.
Grab the Vespa today for those coastal or mountain pass runs.
A special bike that just feels right.
The P200E has benefitted from the following work;
• Professional restoration done (2020)
• Major service just done (2024)
• New tyres
• Seat recovered in genuine leather (2024)
1981 Vespa P150X
The easiest riding Vespa of them all, and the best bike for daily commuting.
The P150X was a benchmark model for Piaggio in reliability and build quality.
I am only the second owner of this PX, it is unrestored and still like new.
Included is the original split pillion seat setup ( I preferred the single “whipped tail” seat)
The Vespa runs beautifully and is as tight as they come, it has no surprises and is ready to cruise to your local coffee shoppe!
The P150X has benefitted from the following work;
• Major service just done (2024)
• New tyres
• Full detail
• Brand new seat and grips. Classic Vespa’s offer that little slice of yesteryear, manual gear shift paired with two stroke power are just make them much more fun to own and ride than their modern four stroke, automatic contemporaries.
The collection for sale offers the potential buyer access to a high calibre collection of vintage bikes, all from a dedicated expert Vespa collector.
Please note, due to logistical arrangements, the Vespas are only available as a parcel, and will not be sold individually.
