Description
1960 Land Rover 109 Dormobile, the oldest known LR Dormobile in existence, according to some its chassis N1 that received a conversion at Martin Walter works.
I've owned this timewarp project for 10 years now and unfortunately have not been able to dedicate time to restore it. It came from a chicken farm in Devon and was owned pretty much by the same family through it's history. Lots of timewarp items preserved with the car. Unfortunately I have finally bought a restored Bedford CA Dormobile to fulfil the dream of family camping before kids grow up and will not want to go camping with us any more so sadly this has to go.
All the important Dormobile specific bit are present and correct: transformable seats, roof rack, cooker, table, cupboard, bunk beds etc. I have repaired and strengthened the frames of the seats as they are a known weak point. All the other bits are there in fair condition.
It's a project! There is no doubt about it, however it does start and drive and the gearbox seems pretty nice for Series 2. It's also equipped with free wheeling front hubs. The bulkhead is as usual the main pain point here and will need substantial amount of work. The chassis is together but has been patched up a lot over the years so I have a correct Series 2 109 Richards Galvanised chassis for it by a separate arrangement (retail price minus the 2 year waiting I had to endure). The door frames are pretty rotten but I have amassed several spare original LR doors in excellent condition. The rest of the bodywork is in fair condition and many who have seen it suggest that it should be kept as is rather than repainted - the choice is yours.
There is a bunch of spares I have amassed over 10 years but this really needs to be seen to be appreciated. Priced to sell so no silly offers please - it is a piece of history after all.
Ay questions - please do not hesitate to ask
