Description

1962 STUDEBAKER LARK DAYTONA CONVERTIBLE

I imported this car myself from San Francisco in 2015. It had always been a Bay Area car.

This car was originally a 6 cylinder car that has now been converted to a 259 ci Studebaker V8 with a 4 speed manual transmission.

I have been working on this car on and off for years to remove the 6 cylinder parts and make the car all V8 as it would have come from the factory. That work is now all completed.

I've been playing with Studebakers for the last 41 years in three of the four countries I have lived in, including North America and do all my own mechanical work as I am very familiar with the marque. Last year I finally has this car to the point where I could register it to be road tested.

This included replacing the front bench seat with factory bucket seats, changing the drive shaft, up rating the differential, springs on all four corners, front sway bar and brakes. Turner disc brakes have been fitted on the front with correct disc brake power booster and drums fitted to the rear. The intention was to make this a really quick performer as the 4 speed transmission really shifts the way any Studebaker performs.

The car has been left as a typical California driver, complete with the Earl Sheib $280. 00 paint job still on the car with the receipt in the file. There are only a few rust spots on the front left fender and door. Otherwise the car is clean and hides nothing.

Before the car was imported, I had a new convertible top fitted complete with inner pads and a new dual exhaust system fitted.

Apart from the up rating of the car to V8 specification, the car has a new radiator, water and fuel pump, replaced convertible hydraulic rams and hydraulic lines and had the convertible top pump serviced. Tune up with all parts and leads.
The car currently has a two barrel carb on it and could do with changing to a 4 barrel to increase the power output.

The car comes with many New Old Stock parts that I have collected over the years, including a complete New Old Stock interior in Blue and white.
One of the last pictures in the group shows one of my other very low mileage 1962 Lark with an original interior to give you an idea of what it should look like when complete.
It includes all door and rear quarter trim panels and top capping pieces. All new seat covers and carpets still in the Studebaker factory boxes. New steering wheel in blue and white , dash pad and both gauges.

New windscreen.
All door and hood rubbers.

The bumper bars were re chromed in America and have been fitted.
The original floor shifter has been converted to a Hurst shifter set up for a more direct gear change and set up to look factory original on the top side.

The American Racing Salt Flat wheels are not included with the sale, but another set of American Racing mag wheels will be provided with the current tyres on the car.

You can either drive this car as is, or repaint and do the interior to make the car as it came out of the factory. If you do decide on the restoration route, this car is a simple car to renovate.

More detailed images are available on request. The V5 is in my name and the vehicle is currently on SORN.
