Description
1937 STUDEBAKER PRESIDENT CONVERTIBLE SEDAN by SALMONS & SONS with TICKFORD TOP
For Restoration.
This car is one of a handful of Studebakers sold in the UK with Salmons coachwork.
Henleys in London was a strong Studebaker dealer selling hundreds of Studebakers per year pre war.
They would have also ordered some chassis's from Studebaker to be coach built by Salmons to anglicise the car and make it more English, like this one.
The Studebaker factory never made any convertibles in 1937, so this car is very unusual.
The previous owners father bought this car in 1940 from the original owner. It then passed to his son and then to his wife on his passing. I had been chasing this car since the early 1990's. In 2015 the family contacted me with the chance to buy the car.
The lead photo in the listing was taken around 1970 at the previous owners daughters christening, with the lady who sold name the car. I am the fourth owner and since I don't think I will ever get around to restoring the car, it's time to let it go.
There are also some pictures of another example that was around in the UK in the late 1960's, EUU 151
The serial number of this car indicates it was the 3rd President built for the 1937 model year. It is the oldest President known to exist and was probably on the Earls Court motor show stand.
This car needs full restoration and is mostly complete.
It was left outside in the early 2000's and the interior and woodwork is toast.
Powered by Studebakers bullet proof Straight 8 motor with a three speed manual transmission.
The body from the firewall back is Aluminium over a wood frame.
Since acquiring this car 11 years ago I have acquired an overdrive transmission and appropriately geared differential for an overdrive transmission that will be included with the sale.
More detailed images are available on request.
TheV5 is in the previous deceased owners name and the registration plate is original to the car.
