Description
I have only owned this SE5a for three months. It really is one of the best out there but I miss my military vehicles and have recently purchased an Austin Champ, so the Scimitar will have to move on.
The previous owner did a fantastic job of restoring the car over the past six years. Other than adding new seat belts and having the carb tweaked it is as I bought it. I have not messed about with it or changed anything.
The restoration included:
Timing gear.
Heads removed and valves re-cut.
Oil pump drive.
New gaskets.
Stainless straight through exhausts.
Diff rebuilt with new bearings and seals.
New clutch and clutch cable.
Galvanised chassis.
New Spax fully adjustable coil overs.
New bushes.
New brakes.
Wheels refurbished.
New battery.
New headlining.
The interior is original and in very good order. The carpets are original and a bit tired but perfectly usable.
All of the dials and switches work as they should and the electric fan cuts in and out just fine. Isolator switch fitted to the battery.
At the time of restoration it was also re-sprayed in the original Capricorn blue.
The car sits at the standard ride height but can easily be lowered to your taste. All five tyres are in very good shape with plenty of miles left in them. The car runs very well, does not over heat and the brakes stop it without any issues whatsoever.
The only two items that are less than perfect are the drivers seat, which does not recline by using the lever. The mechanism is misaligned some how. It is currently bolted into position with several different positions available. You need a couple of spanners to adjust it not the lever. The second item is the dash around the dials. It has a black vinyl fixed to it but not around the edges so it has lifted slightly from the edge of the flat dash part that houses the dials. The tan dash and interior is all very good.
This is the first Scimitar that I have owned so I am not an expert but from those that know about such things it is a very good one.
The car comes with a full set of spare glass including the windscreen, original exhaust pipes and springs. There is also a fair amount of historic paperwork to go with it. Some paint and a handful of minor spares.
The car is garaged and lives at dear old Mother's house, the address on the registration document is my home address and differs to the collection address.
It is a strong asking price but I am open to genuine offers. I sold my old Austin Champ as it needed too much work for me to keep it on the road. I sold it and decided go go for something that I had never owned before. I spotted the Scimitar, it was in such good shape that it sold itself to me. There is nothing wrong with the Scimitar, I just want to get back into military vehicles and that scene.
