Description

So here we have a very reluctant sale of my 1972 Austin 1300GT.
Purchased August 2023 this was to be my last project and a keeper after searching for a good example for a few years but sadly due to working full time and for the last couple of years both my wife and I also have to look after my elderly mother in her own home and father in law also required are help the last 12 months, there has been no free time and looks that way for the foreseeable future! The previous owner took the GT off the road in 2021 after the MOT expired and did no more with the car. Its had a respray at some point which is good but could be better. I have driven the car for less than a mile and the engine pulled very well with no smoke but the brakes are low and the steering rack is very worn and tight so would have to be trailered away. The previous owner explained it was fitted with a maniflow exhaust that cost £1400 but I have no paperwork for that but it fits as the original system should. Interior is good but carpet is worn and a small tear in the drivers seat. Since ownership I have drained the old oil, engine flush and new oil / filter, plugs and coil but haven't fitted the new points, cap or leads. I believe it just wants recommissioning work as it did not receive as much maintenance previously that a classic should receive. Its fitted with the very rare Dunlop D1 alloys with a excellent set of tyres. I am a member of the 1100 club and this GT appeared in the Nov-December 2023 magazine and Jan-February 2024 issue were I gained some history of the car from other members. I was informed it was once part of a large private collection that JLR wanted just a few of the cars but had to buy the whole collection and what they didn't require was finally auctioned off and the GT was one of the vehicles to be sold back to the private sector, I still have the email of the member that explains more. The mileage is showing just over 45000, I have no solid proof of this but it seems to add up on DVLA MOTs but again I cannot guarantee if correct. At this point I would like to mention that I am NOT desperate to sell and willing to keep until life situations return to normal but feel this GT needs to be put back to its former glory and enjoyed on sunny days at classic car shows so please no beggars or dreamers! Viewing is weekends only at set times please, payment by bank transfer before collection and sensible offers are welcome.
