Description
This Maserati Sebring is one of only 242 examples built in the second series (total Sebring production: 592). This model is one of the thirty or so cars sold in France and is therefore listed in the Thépenier register. This Sebring drives like a dream and boasts an original patina that gives it a charm beyond compare. It has only had three French owners, the last of whom acquired it in 1978 (original registration)! The second acquired it in 1974. This gives a fairly accurate picture of its history, and confirms that its mileage of 29, 000 km is well-founded. The paintwork was redone some twenty years ago, in its original colour. The Maserati Sebring is powered by a 6-cylinder in-line twin overhead camshaft engine that has long since proved its worth. It runs smoothly both at low revs of 700 rpm and at high revs in excess of 6, 000 rpm. The Series I is powered by a 3, 485cc engine developing 235bhp. The Series II saw its displacement increased to 3, 694 cm3 for a power output of 245 bhp, enabling it to cruise at 220 km/ h with a real sense of security. Indeed, its high-speed stability is described as impressive, and it is neither oversteer nor understeer. Rear suspension is provided by a single axle suspended by semi-elliptical springs. The front suspension uses a double wishbone system. Both suspension systems are linked to an anti-roll bar.
