The Appeal

The 1920s were a fast-paced period for development. Every year seemed to see a new iteration, a new variant, a new trim or a new model - which is partly what made the Riley 9 so significant. This lightweight passenger saloon held its own for three years, which at the time was quite an achievement. It's often remarked that those 3 years were so the market rivals could catch up! At launch in July 1926, two body styles were available, a fabric-bodied saloon - The Monaco - for £285 and a fabric four-seat tourer for £235.

With its curious Weymann body - at the time, a prized option for those seeking a little extra speed and silence on the road - the Riley 9 Monaco now stands out as one of a curious breed. These fabric bodies only stayed in production for a decade, and while they may not be the most practical things, you can guarantee they'll catch the eye.

This fabulous example of the Riley 9 Monaco comes to us in fine fettle, with plenty of work recently carried out. It's rare we come across one of these forward-thinking cars and we've no doubt it'll attract plenty of attention.
