1959 MG A 1600 Coupe

Vendor supplied images

Highlights

  • Two registered keepers from new
  • Smart OEW over red colour scheme
  • Ideal classic rally and touring sports car
  • Good history file

The Appeal

The A was such a new type of MG that it got a simple but inaugural name. Aerodynamics modernised the looks and maximised the performance of its sweet-revving engines. Later cars like this one got more power.
While the convertibles tend to be more plentiful, the stylish coupe is perfect for the sort of all-weather classic rallying and touring at which the A excels. This lovely 1959 1600 has been used for exactly that. Its single Dutch keeper acquired it in 1997 from its first UK keeper.
It is smartly finished in a fetching Old English White over red leather. Sparingly used in recent years - so some recommissioning is recommended - this car is solid and presentable but not concours. That makes it ideally suited for more touring adventures, or it could be steadily improved and shown.
