The Plus
It was an ambitious idea. Citroën would take the DS and evolve it into a luxurious 'grande routière' in the spirit of the elegant pre-war French cars of the Talbot-Lago, Bugatti and Delage marques, filling the gap in the market then recently vacated by Facel Vega.
To provide the appropriate performance, Maserati, the group's new acquisition, was asked to adapt the V8 of its Indy sports car into a V6. Designed by Robert Opron and technologically advanced, even by Citroën's already high standards, the new SM featured clever DIRAVI power steering and hydraulic suspension.
This beautiful 1973 car is both very well maintained and particularly rare. It is a very appreciable "SC" car with the 2.7 litre "injection" engine and manual gearbox, and one of only 260 cars finished in the magnificent Bleu de Brégançon, which was only available for one year.
The paintwork is pleasingly original, but the engine, hydraulics and injection system have recently been extensively rebuilt. A full service has also been carried out. It is being marketed with the guarantee of a rigorous 2022 independent inspection, visible in the photographs.
The SM is one of the greatest GT cars of the last 50 years, and this example has the specification and condition that discerning collectors will appreciate.

Of the range of colours available to original SM buyers, Bleu De Brégançon is surely one of the most beautiful, as this very original car shows. It was only available for one year, and it is perhaps surprising, given its beauty, that only 260 cars were finished in this colour.
This beautiful car is in excellent original condition, with only very slight traces of patina testifying to its authenticity. There is no corrosion on the panels or underside, all of which have been well maintained. The interior is faithful to the spirit of the vehicle, being well maintained and unmodified. It retains a range of admirable details that make these GT cars such great buys.

2,670 cm3 fuel-injected V6 engine developed by Maserati, producing 175 bhp

Independent mechanical and structural assessment 2022
Described as well maintained and in "impeccable" mechanical condition
Buyers of the SM model could choose between two versions of the Maserati-derived V6 running on fuel injection and carburettors. This car is an "SC" model, which means it is fitted with the 2.7-litre engine with manual gearbox and fuel injection. These cars were among the most popular with buyers.
It is in a condition described by the vendor as 'immaculate'. This is due to a complete rebuild of the engine - including the valves - as well as an overhaul of the hydraulics and fuel injection system. A full service has also recently been carried out.
A full independent inspection in 2022 reinforces the vendor's impression of a very well maintained and faultless car.
