The Appeal
There’s a thriving community around 105 Series Alfa Romeos, and if you’ve ever been lucky enough to drive one, you’ll know what all the fuss is about. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more tractable four-cylinder sports car. The Giuseppe Busso-designed all-alloy Nord twin-cam is one of the sweetest engines ever made and in range-topping 2.0-litre form, it gives you around 130 bhp to play with via the low-geared five-speed manual gearbox.
Following a comprehensive rebuild in 1999-2000, this right-hand-drive 1974 GTV 2000 has been very well looked after. In more recent years, it has received a Giulia Sprint GTA-inspired makeover in homage to those Autodelta-developed competition cars of the 1960s and ‘70s. This work began in 2015 when the trader from whom the vendor acquired the car fitted Alfaholics’ uprated stainless steel exhaust system.
The current owner has then continued on this theme with GTA replica alloy wheels, a 1750-style radiator grille, the removal of the bumpers and a raft of other enhancements which bring the car up to the high standard you see in the photographs. Mechanically, it remains faithful to the period although is enhanced by Koni dampers and those dual DellOrto carbs now breathe freely through individual air socks.
If you make a study of the extensive history file, you’ll observe that there are a great many invoices from leading parts suppliers like Classic Alfa and Alfaholics which show the purchase of numerous parts to enhance the car both mechanically and cosmetically. There are also several invoices for specialist services during recent years and the vendor comments that the car drives superbly as a result.
This little red Alfa looks a lot of fun and we’re big fans of the thoughtful upgrades which serve to enhance its best bits without compromising its original character.

1999-2000 restoration totalling around £13,000 for which several invoices still accompany the car
C. 3,000 miles post-restoration, the car’s continual development was halted due to financial difficulties and it was purchased by Alfa Man - the garage which had completed the work thus far
It would remain with the garage for almost twelve years, sold to the next owner in 2013
The car was maintained to a high standard over the next two years and then sold at auction in 2014 to a new keeper who had it for a short time before selling it to a classic car dealer
It was from this dealer our vendor acquired the car in 2015
At least £4,600 was subsequently spent on maintenance/upgrades although the vendor has not totalled the full extent of their expenditure
