The Appeal
This is one quick old brick.
We'd love to meet the person who woke up one morning and thought, "Let's shoehorn the drivetrain from a Jensen Interceptor into a Volvo 760 and go racing..."
Built and raced by the renowned Volvo specialist C P Motors, this '80s Swedish tank has been transformed into a highly competitive V8 drag car, affectionately dubbed "Big Bird" thanks to its vibrant yellow colour scheme. We're informed that it runs a 12.2-second quarter-mile time at 117 mph - no mean feat. It achieves this blistering performance thanks to a front-mid-mounted 6.3-litre 'big block' Chrysler V8 sending (immense) power to the rear wheels via 727 Torqueflite auto gearbox and LSD rear axle.
That muscular rear bodywork is all built in metal and the car has been dry-stored in a heated, dry showroom for nearly 20 years while campaigned by C P Motors. The extensive paperwork from its racing days at Shakespeare International Raceway adds to its provenance.
We can't wait to see this Volvo tearing up the drag strip again in the near future.
