The Appeal
Replacing the R107 in 1989, the R129 was laden with the latest tech. It was the first Mercedes-Benz SL to feature a fully automatic ‘electro-hydraulic’ roof, the first SL to introduce to feature an Active Damping System (ADS) and the first passenger car to have its seatbelts anchored into the seats. If that wasn’t enough, the styling was fabulous and archetypal of the Sacco era. There was a range of fabulous engines to choose from, including a V12 for the first time, and the build quality, as ever, was sublime.
This 1994 500 SL has been in the UK since 2016 and indicates a mere 111,600 km (69,400 miles) which have predominantly been septa on Japan’s salt-free roads. It appears in superb overall condition, highly original and commensurate with the low indicated mileage, exhibits little in the way of wear. The MOT runs until 3rd April 2025 and is devoid of advisories. Resplendent in Polar White with contrasting Anthracite leather, this R129 is very smart and is sure to be of great interest to SL fans.
