The Appeal
Mitsubishi’s Evo VI was the final version of the ‘classic’ original chassis, the one that underpinned the firm’s incredible run of WRC wins.
Those championship cars were piloted to four consecutive wins by Tommi Makinen, so it was entirely fitting that name the final versions of the Evo VI after him. Unofficially known as ‘Evo 6.5’ thanks to a raft of further improvements, these limited-run cars are the most desirable versions of a model that enthusiasts highly rate.
Few were built, and factory-standard cars with low mileage are the most appealing. This is the GSR model, and it ticks those boxes. Delivered new in Greece, we are told it has had a handful of keepers, most recently the current one since 2017. He has kept it in a temperature-controlled environment as part of a classic car collection, using it for just 200 km per year.
In that time it has been serviced bi-annually irrespective of mileage. There has also bee a new clutch. The car is largely factory standard except for an uprated exhaust and Tein adjustable suspension, improvements that were fitted shortly after it was first registered.
The condition is hugely impressive. The optional silver metallic paintwork presents well and the interior, with its bespoke T Makinen-stitched seats, looks barely used. The ‘TME’ version of the Evo VI is one of the greatest driver’s cars of the last 30 years. Don’t miss this very good example.

The Mechanics
- 1,997cc 4cyl 280bhp turbocharged engine
- 5spd manual gearbox
- TME GSR specification including lowered suspension
- TME titanium turbocharger that spools faster than standard unit
- Front upper strut brace and quicker steering rack of TME model
- Fitted when nearly new with upgraded exhaust system and Tein electrically adjustable suspension
- Regularly serviced by seller since 2017 every 400kms
- New clutch fitted since 2017
- No reported running or driving issues
No wonder reviewers drool over the Evo VI. It was the last of the original Evos, the ones based on the WRC-winning chassis. The TME is unofficially known as a Evo 6.5 because these limited run, final cars got neat tweaks like a quicker-spooling titanium turbo, faster steering rack and lowered suspension. Little things, but details that nudge these special cars into even more rarified driving territory.
This low-mileage car has clearly been looked after. The vendor has used it sparingly since buying it in 2017, covering only 200 km per year. He has had the car serviced every two years and also treated it to a new clutch. It is reported to be in excellent running order with nothing for the buyer to attend to.
The vendor tells us:
“Perfect to drive - it is fast and precise with no issues or noises. This car is a rare piece to find and it is a collectible value due to the famous rally driver Tommi Makinen.”
