The Appeal
A Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed grand tourer with a Ferrari-derived V8, the Maserati Coupé sounds epic on paper, and in the flesh, it's even better...
Writing in a September 2004 edition of Autocar, Richard Bremner said of the 4200:
"You can rely on this car, and that makes it an immensely satisfying road weapon. Especially with that trumpeting exhaust."
Praise indeed.
Twenty years on, this glorious Italian thoroughbred remains a mightily tempting proposition. For long-distance grand touring, it's a superb choice, and we can strongly recommend this 2003 Cambiocosa example with its F1 'automated manual' gearbox.
Boasting numerous service stamps at regular intervals and a range of invoices for significant work, including two clutch replacements, this Maserati has clearly been well cared for. It's been stored indoors by both the current and previous keepers, and with no advisories in the last two MOTs, it's clear the car is in very good health.

The Condition
Original and presents very well throughout
Tasteful metallic grey with matching darker grey alloy wheels
Two very small marks: one on the rear quarter panel and another on the boot lid
Straight-looking bodywork: no notable scrapes or dents to report
The panel gaps look good all round and the doors appear well-fitting
Underneath, all presents well for a car of this age
All four alloys look in very good condition with few signs of age and no notable kerb damage
All tyres reportedly in very good order
The upholstery looks very good for a car of this age
The vendor notes a little wear on the driver's seat bolster but nothing especially noteworthy
The buttons/switchgear suffers somewhat from the "sticky switch" issue that affects several Italian cars of this period
No outstanding work required other than intermittent radio
The Mechanics
4.2-litre (4,244cc) F136 R V8
Six-speed F1 automated manual transmission
The vendor notes that it starts and runs really well and the gear change is smooth while the brakes are strong
We're informed that the Maserati makes rapid process down the road and the F1-style gearbox works well, proving equally easy to live with at lower speeds
Just had a new timing variator fitted (£1,000)
New battery fitted
The service history shows that there have been two previous clutch replacements
