Description
1951 Bristol 401 presented in Velvet Green tastefully paired with Poppy Red leather upholster and Green Wilton carpets to match the exterior.
The Bristol 401 was initially released in Autumn 1949, it was distinguished by its ultra-smooth, aerodynamic exterior. The Bristol 401 was the first Bristol to wear Bristol’s signature complete aluminium body with Superleggera framework.
“Powered by an engine basically similar to that which has brought major honours to four types of Bristol Formula 2 racing cars”
This specific example was first registered 1st May 1951 presented in Burgundy. It’s noted in the Bristol Owners Club’s records the car was driven in the RAC Rally by a Mr AH Hesp, starting at Cheltenham in 1951. Over the years the car has had 7 owners with much documented restoration work documented in the history. Whilst in the ownership of Mr C Zimmerli & J Lofthouse, the car was completely restored in 2005 (Body off restoration, engine rebuild and retrim).
Mr Andrew Blow sold the car to the current owner in 2006, he has compiled a large number of invoice for works carried out since 2006. Almost straight away in 2007 the J Type overdrive unit was fitted which massively benefits the Bristol 401 reducing the RPM’s considerably whilst cruising.
