Description

-A highly original car in superb order
-Sophisticated and unusual high vision coachwork
-Superb interior trim with unique features

GPK 222 is a superb car in lovely condition, still wearing the exquisite H J Mulliner coupé coachwork the car was supplied with new.

H. J. Mulliner are a coachbuilder synonymous with Rolls-Royce & Bentley motors, having produced the iconic 'fastback' coachwork fitted to the R-type and S1 Continental models. Latterly, the firm was purchased by Rolls-Royce and merged with Park Ward to produce special bespoke coachwork.

The H. J. Mulliner High Vision Coupé coachwork fitted to GPK 222 is a master class in styling, with an unusual focus on function and practicality. Incorporated into the front section of the roof is a curved glass panel, disguised by a pair of concertina blinds. With the blinds open the car offers a 'high vision' view, making the car feel more spacious and allowing unrestricted views - perfect for Alpine touring. Furthermore, the car has a sunroof, also including a glass panel, with a beautifully trimmed blind.

Cars with such sophisticated and attractive coachwork are few and far between. GPK 222's elegance is further enhanced by its curvaceous wing shapes; a well-proportioned tail; and wheel discs, spare wheel cover and half-rear spats.

The car was delivered new in June 1938 to Robert Constantine Graseby of Venner Time Switches Ltd, Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey, a Bentley enthusiast who purchased six Derby Bentleys (more than any other customer). Chassis cards indicate the subsequent owner, Mr C C Matthews of Chobham, Surrey, from 30th December 1947. During the 1980's the car is believed to have resided in America before returning to the UK and forming part of the Willey Collection in 1993. The current owner purchased GPK 222 via P&A Wood in 2016 and commissioned them to carry out repairs. Interestingly, on page 335 of Bernard L King's book 'The Derby Built Bentleys', GPK 222 is featured.

Today the car presents beautifully, finished in black with beige hide, and retains its original tool kit. This is an exceptional Bentley and is superb to drive.
