This beautiful Sunbeam Alpine Harrington is a very well-maintained classic vehicle
with a long record of any work undertaken, as well as having numerous MOT
certificates and other supporting documents going back years reflecting the life and
history of the car. A folder full of previous works and history to support the car which
includes the original sales invoice.
Built in 1961, along with approximately 110 other Alpine Harringtons, this vehicle is
one for the collector and true enthusiast. It is one to be enjoyed, to be taken out on a
leisurely Sunday drive during summer or to be shown of at car shows. This is truly a
car that’s been loved its whole life, and the paperwork and condition of the car
reflects this. The car has been used and enjoyed by its previous owners and the low
mileage attests to this, the term smiles per mile comes to mind.
The body work is in very fair condition for the cars age, and you can see this in the
photographs. The interior is comfortable, stylish and still provides that 60s feeling
and design. The original cream interior was changed by the current owner for a more
stylish black leather partnered with red accents around the edges of the seats.
The vehicle has been thoroughly inspected at Fourways and recently received a
recommissioning with invoices totalling in excess of £4k.
Thomas Harrington Ltd was a coachbuilding firm founded in Brighton in 1897 and
specialised in making coach bodies, although they also made armoured vehicles in
wartime and even bodied a few cars for Rolls-Royce and Talbot.
They also became agents for the sale of Rootes cars, so it was natural that
Sunbeam turned to Harrington when they wanted to create a Coupe version of their
Alpine Roadster in 1960. Each Harrington Alpine was handmade to order and no two
are exactly alike as customers could specify their own interior trim and mechanical
upgrades.
