Description
The Alfa Romeo Montreal was a sports coupé designed on the basis of a styling study by Marcello Gandini, then an employee of the Bertone master's workshop, with the aim of creating and exhibiting "man's greatest aspiration in terms of the automobile", "La massima aspirazione dell'uomo in fatto di automobili".
Adapting the shapes of the prototype to this chassis proved difficult, particularly after the decision to use the V8 engine from the Alfa 33, whereas the prototypes were equipped with the mechanics of the Alfa Romeo Giulia, a 4-cylinder double overhead camshaft engine. This adaptation meant that the entire beltline had to be raised, as did the integration of the highly curved side windows. All these difficulties meant a three-year development period, with the first cars not being delivered until 1971. Our example, first registered in 1972, is in good overall condition. It was acquired in 2011 by its current owner and has a substantial invoice file. This Montreal benefited from a complete restoration between 2009 and 2010, with the engine completely dismantled and overhauled. Today, our Alfa Romeo is still in perfect working order and is used regularly by its owner.
The paintwork shows signs of use and we can see a little surface rust in a few places.
The V8 starts and runs perfectly, thanks to regular use and maintenance. The interior is in good condition, the red velvet seats are comfortable and the carpets show signs of use.
Ready to take to the road, this Montreal is delivered with its technical inspection up to date, its French collector's registration document and its complete file. Jolivel Automobile, Classic - Sport - Youngtimer specialist
