Description
1956 Bentley S1 Aluminium Sports Saloon by Hooper. Finished in two tone Green with Dark green Hide interior. This extremely rare example is presented in outstanding condition throughout and performs very well in all aspects on the road being some 80lbs less than the ‘standard steel’ version. At the time of launch, Autocar magazine’s report described the car as ‘attractive’ with a ‘superlative finish’. Indeed, these cars were all specially commissioned to the customer exact specification and produced in very limited numbers, this particular example was ordered with electric windows! Unheard of in 1955! Needless to say, such exacting attention to detail did not come cheap; Hooper’s elegant body on the ‘S’ chassis cost £7, 074, making it a staggering 43% more expensive than the factory-bodied car. Our car, chassis number B301AP is a beautiful example with excellent coachwork and an equally fine interior, the cabinet work is particularly fine, veneered in Burr Walnut with a beautiful deep lustre. Overall, this is an exceptional example of an extremely rare and highly desirable coachbuilt S1. Perfect for showing and touring.
