Description
Coming to us (unfortunately) purely due to illness suffered by its last owner, this rare to find UK spec XS1100 is a great “Survivor” example of what was once Yamahas flag ship bike. These old boys come in at nigh on 600 pounds in weight but some how managed to turn in a surprisingly quick performance, while almost “shrinking” in size once on the move. All this makes them more than capable of keeping up with modern day traffic and a great choice if your looking for a classic Jap multi you can use, not only for shows, but also for doing some serious miles.
Showing very low mileage and while we cannot guarantee any readings, there is some history showing its very sporadic use over the years, many of which it was on SORN . We do know that the last owner purchased it from the gent that had had it since 2007 and he also had hardly used it. Then he laid it up just prior to “Covid” hitting and unfortunately he has never recovered since then, so never got to use it. When we purchased it the carbs needed a full clean and build from being left with the dreaded ethanol laced fuel in. Front brake callipers were seized so needed a full strip and rebuild, the front master cylinder was beyond redemption so has been replaced. Past a good deep clean that was it. All the paintwork appears to be original, no not mint as it does have a couple of small marks but it presents really well and it would almost be sacrilegious to repaint it. Chrome work is very good, there are a couple of places where time has taken its toll, predominantly under the rear of the original silencers where there has been repairs carried out at some point, not the tidiest plates have been patched on as you can see in the pictures.
On its first ride out in years it rode really well, engine and gearbox are smooth, brakes clutch etc are all good as well. The speedo appears to be dragging as reacts slowly, but is working and seems to be getting better with use, often the way when unused for so long. Along with its paperwork there is the original owners handbook, the March 1978 edition of Motor Cycle Mechanics that features the XS1100 and its original tool kit all this helping to make this Yamaha XS11 a true survivor.
