For Sale 1 Owner From New '69 Westfalia Campmobile-
An extremely rare find, this camper was first registered on 27th March 1969. To its first owner Mr Herrera, in California and supplied by Wilkinson VW. Mr Herrera had it regularly serviced by Wilkinson's as you can see in the original service booklet. Which is still with the bus, as its original Westfalia instruction book. Along with other original paperwork and the original sales brochure.
As it spent most of its life in the warm dry climate of California it remained in superb solid condition.
In 1989 Mr Herrera decided to park the bus undercover until late 2018, when he decided his lovely old camper should be sold and a new custodian enjoy the bus to its fullest. Fortunately, it was at this time that a keen Volkswagen importer and friend of mine was in California searching for quality vehicles and chanced upon Mr Herrera's advert. They negotiated a deal and it arrived in England a few weeks later.
A bus of this quality is too good to pass by, so I purchased it for stock to fully restore to the condition it was the day it left Wilkinson VW 51 years ago.
As you can see we completely stripped the bus back to bare metal, repairing the odd knock and dent the camper had picked up along the way, before our painters laid on several coats of primer and finished with fresh coats of its original Montana red L30H to the inside, outside and underside of the body, complimented by L581 cloud white to the roof, bumpers and badge.
We then sourced the best reproduction materials to reupholster the front seats and door cards. The rear mustard vinyl, vinyl flooring, original weave curtains and new ply headliner. We then replaced the roof canvas, cab floor and arch rubber mats, together with all new window and door rubbers.
The engine, brakes and running gear will also be fully serviced and overhauled, together with a brand new mot if it stays in the UK.
We have also added expensive, genuine thin white band tyres, not the cheap and nasty tyre trims, other use.
In short, it has been our desire to create a bus as close to how it was when it originally drove out of the dealership all those years ago, perhaps the icing on the cake is that it comes with an original Westfalia awning, which is the perfect accessory.
Pictures attached show the camper in Mr Herrera's yard in California where it spent almost its life and then in my yard when I first received it, you can then see the lengths we have gone to to fully restore this beauty back to showroom standards.
You could be the 2nd registered owner of this lovely time capsule.
