Description
This 1947 Morris Series Y Radio Investigations Van is one of only 165 ever produced. The body is believed to be original and was previously owned by someone in Kent in the late 1980s who used it for their garden business. Over the years, the van has gradually been restored to its original GPO (General Post Office) livery and equipment.
Another identical vehicle currently resides in the Leyland Commercial Vehicle Museum in full GPO condition, making this one at Hardy Classics the only known roadworthy Radio Investigations Van.
The van is coach-built using a specialized fibreboard material in the bodywork, as metal panels would have interfered with the radio wave detection required for its purpose.
This tidy little van is being sold as a project car. It does start and run but will require some recommissioning and updating. The bodywork is solid but could use some refurbishment, as shown in the photos and video. An extensive history file is included, with newspaper/ magazine articles, photographs, previous MOT certificates, and related literature.
