Description
* 5th Oct update*: over £1000 just spent on:
1) 034 Motorsport x2 gearbox mounts
2) Top mounts
3) 034 Motorsport coil conversion kit to eradicate an occasional WOT hesitation.
The C4 S6 Avant is one of the ultimate all-round modern classics.
2. 2 AAN 5 pot turbo engine, 6 speed manual, Quattro: fantastic performance, safety and useability regardless of the weather. This particular model is the run-out 'Plus Spec', gaining additional extras such as digital climate control, electric tilt / slide steel sunroof, piano black window accents, retractable rear window blind, carbon effect accents with a subtle blue fleck to highlight the alcantara, a BOSE 6 disc system with factory subwoofer and of course the optional stunning Nogaro Blue alcantara / black leather electrically operated and heated interior which contracts beautifully with the metallic silver paintwork. A stowable, integrated inflatable load-through ski-bag is a lovely touch. The car is also fitted with a removable towbar and electrics.
I have owned this car for 16 months, and in that time I've not only kept up the meticulous maintenance of the car (which is mostly AUDI with the rest Audi specialist/ Indy - please see paperwork) but have also sympathetically improved the car with the majority of work (approx £7000) carried out by Audi specialists QST. In brief it has benefitted from:
* Air con radiator (£500) (ice cold)
* Bilstein B8 shocks & Eibach springs (£1650 inc 4 wheel alignment)
* Supersprint cat-back system (£1800)
* MTM Stg 1 remap (£700)
* 034 Short shift kit (£250)
* 034 black aluminum recirculating dv (£140)
* Cabin heater control unit replaced (£400)
* Kuhmo PS71s all-round (£400)
* D088 silicone hose set (black for OEM look)
The above work has taken this already very enjoyable car to the next level: it now sounds better when pushing on (but factory volume when cruising), handles better (with zero loss in ride comfort), goes better and feels a nicer place to be from the driver seat: the 6th gear pull on motorways is genuinely impressive and makes for relaxed, fuss-free driving.
The car was MOT'd approx 600 miles ago and expires in April 2025. The car drives without fault, firing first time on the key everytime and with no squeaks, rattles, knocks or groans, exactly as you'd expect from a cherished AUDI of this vintage: the build quality is equal to - if not surpassing - my previous E39 M5. The only notable points are:
* Front wings are bubbling on the arch
* Passenger wing mirror has a cracked case
* Dash computer illumination is innop, though the digits can be clearly read in the daytime and a brand new replacement LCD panel is included in the sale (a 'to-do' job that I've not yet got round to!)
* Front bumper has stone chips / general wear that is to be expected with age and mileage.
* Sunroof sticks in one corner and needs attention
For a near-30 year old car, the above can be forgiven and are all relatively simple repairs to undertake. The overall condition I would confidently describe as 'excellent', with no car park dings or scratches and correct panel gaps throughout the car, with no signs of accident damage. I had the slightly tired looking rear bumper and tailgate painted last year, with before and after pictures to evidence that this was cosmetic rather than due to accident damage. At the time I also fitted new old stock 'S6 Plus' badges (as a nod to the very rare Plus Spec of this car) and left the Audi rings off the tailgate for what I feel is a cleaner look; all original badges are included in the sale, providing you the option to either way.
The private plate (Audi 2. 2 Turbo) will be supplied with the car, or a small discount can be made should you wish to take the car on its original 'P' plate.
With just 4 previous owners before me, the car has enjoyed many years with each, and I can entirely understand the reluctance for those owners to move it on.
Please note that the car will be supplied with the OEM gear shifter linkage, etc.
This lovely and highly rare S6 is still in daily use, so the mileage will creep up. It is on an agreed classic insurance valuation at £19, 000, the V5C is in my name and registered at my home address, and three original sets of keys and alarm fobs are present. There are no advisories on the MOT, and there is nothing I am aware of the time of writing that the car is likely to need in terms of maintenance anytime soon.
With prices of the UR Quattro now quite stratospheric, this car - mechanically an estate-bodied UR - represents great value and I am sure will prove to be an investment for the next owner.
I am happy to explore sensible offers close to the advertised price: this really is a one-off opportunity to find an S6 in this fantastic spec and in this lovely condition.
Collection from Shoreham by Sea (near Brighton).
