Description
This is the Capri to have with the lusty 2. 8 litre V6 Cologne engine !
It is presented in very good condition, having recently passed (on 20th August) an MOT following around £3, 000 of work carried out by a well recognised Capri expert based in Lincolnshire, and additionally, some essential welding work.
That work included:
- a new clutch
- removal, draining and re-oiling of the gearbox, with new front and rear seals
- replacement rear wheel bearings
- fixing of the heating/ cooling matrix for the cockpit
- essential electrical fixes to ensure all switched items such as rear wiper, rear screen heater, rear fog light, cigar lighter, and dashboard lighting all works correctly
- new starter solenoid
- new tailgate locking mechanism
The engine pulls strongly and the gear changes and now perfect and slick through all 5 forward gears plus reverse.
The interior has the half-leather Recaro seats and is in good condition.
The car was first registered on 27th November 1984 and so should become a formal classic and hence tax/ MOT exempt from 1st April 2025.
Points to note are:
- the odometer was changed during the last 12 months as most of the gauges had become inoperable and the rear circuitboard was badly damaged - the new odometer was fitted at 40, 492 miles when the original odometer showed 29, 731 miles
- I can provide the original instrument binnacle and a dated photo of the mileage on installation of the new odometer as evidence
- there is no stereo although all of the wiring appears to be in place to fit one, including the door speakers
- the sunroof only tilts and does not slide (a common problem in Capris)
I have some spare/ replacement parts that I can provide with the car including:
- a spare new clutch cable
- another dashboard
- side stripsAccording to Ford, this was the car you always promised yourself.
After almost 40 years, it continues to provide a great driving experience with its strong engine pulling power and rear wheel drive handling.
Almost every time it is taken out on the road, it provokes thumbs up from other drivers plus pedestrians, people taking photos, or approaching to tell you how their granddad/ dad/ uncle/ brother had one !
I have kept this car in an underground car park since owning for the last 2 years and it has predominantly only been driven in dry conditions.
I bought the car through a Car & Classic auction and the seller, who had re-commissioned and prepared the car for sale, told me that it had been off the road for many years; apparently, the previous owner had passed away and his parents did not want to part with it until he had eventually persuaded them to sell. Due to the lack of MOT paper history and uncertainty over how long the car had been in storage, it is not clear whether the car had gone round the clock or not prior to my purchase.
