The RS1600i was developed by Ford Motorsport in Germany to homologate the car for Group A competition.

EXTERIOR
This outstanding RS1600i is finished in rare Graphite Grey (only 250 were built in this colour). The paintwork is as you would expect from a fully refurbished car and all body panels are in fantastic order. The underside is clean and lacking any excess applied underseal to allow easy visual appreciation of the perfect structural integrity. Correct features of the RS1600i includes the shortened rear roof drip rail, front and rear spoilers as well as the distinctive decals. Original tinted glass and Ford main dealer ‘Bristol Street Motors’ decal remains in the rear screen as well as on the number plates.
INTERIOR
This car was ordered with the ‘Executive’ pack, which included a sunroof, electric aerial, and Ford RST21P radio cassette player, as well as the standard electric windows and central locking.
Finished in Shark Grey Crushed Velour, (Code TC), the stunning interior features very special ‘Scheel’ RS seats with deep side bolsters that have been refurbished to restore structural integrity and eliminate the usual cloth ‘sag’ and the matching door cards and perforated headlining are in pristine condition. The carpets are in excellent order having been protected from new by genuine Ford rubber over mats. The original steering wheel displays little undue wear and the dashboard has no cracks. All interior equipment is functional including the fuel cut-off warning lights and standard Ford P21 push button radio. The boot area is spotlessly clean including the immaculate rear parcel shelf. A superb interior commensurate with a fastidious restoration to near concours condition.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Fords transverse mounted 1600 CVH Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) unit producing 115 BHP. Mated to the Bosch K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System incorporating deceleration fuel shut-off, special alloy cylinder head and camshaft the car has a top speed of 118mph and achieves 0-60 in 8. 7 seconds. The engine bay is very clean and original, running the unique twin-coil ignition system. The gear changes are light and a joy to use with the unique 0. 83 fifth gear ratio fitted only to the RS1600i.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Refurbished, correct(not RS Turbo!) Ronal cast alloy wheels with Ford Motorsport part number stampings to one spoke only are shod with unworn premium tyres fitted all round. Diagonally split hydraulic circuits with tandem master cylinder, vacuum servo assistance and 9. 4” ventilated discs up front bring the car to an adequate halt.
HISTORY FILE
Introduced in September 1981, this stunning RS1600i was built in June 1983, the penultimate month before final production in July 1983, one of 2, 600 UK examples and one of only 250 in Graphite Grey. (Source: RS Owners Club). Registered new on the 1st August 1983 by Ford Main Dealer, Bristol Street Motors.
This stunning Graphite Grey RS1600i has undergone a professional, fully documented restoration. The body restoration included a bare metal rotisserie frame corrosion elimination using original panels from a donor car. Full suspension refurbishment included the sourcing of rare original Koni dampers. The underside displays an OEM standard exhaust system and 4 Ford mudflaps to complete the factory look.
The engine has been professionally rebuilt and includes a new ‘Newman Cams’ cam ground to original spec and running solid lifters, new pistons, re-bore, re-ground crankshaft, head skimmed, block skimmed, new oil pump, etc, etc…. The twin coil set-up and finned cast alloy rocker cover are proudly on display and the ignition computer has been professionally inspected and certified.
