Genuine Survivor 1965 Beetle
Meet Daisy, an unrestored original 1965 Beetle.
This Left Hand Drive, Panama Beige car was originally supplied to it's first owner, a lady who lived in Finland and owned it for the first 30 years of it's life. The 2nd male owner in Finland owned it for 20 years.
The car has clearly been loved as the body panels are all original, including the rear wings which are the rare Scandinavian type with anti ice guards built in from new underneath. The panel fit all over the car is excellent, with no rust in any of the usual places like on the doors, the bonnet or engine lid lips. The spare wheel well is amazing, and it still has it's original jack and cardboard boot liner. The running boards are the original and have the correct beige rubber covers, albeit showing some patina, but too good to change. The rear wings also have original Swedish gravel guards. Even the wing beading is original beige.
The paintwork is mostly OG factory (about 80%), with a few areas that have been touched up over the years with signs of some paint blown in over the wings, and around the gutters. The only areas showing any signs of surface rust are small areas on the front scuttle where it meets the bonnet, in the gutters, and a tiny bit bubbling on one rear quarter where it joins the wing.
The car has just been to a professional car detailer to have the paintwork sympathetically cleaned and polished (see pics at the detailer) and it has removed years of grime to reveal a beautiful finish.
All the brightwork presents well, and the car polishes up beautifully.
The interior presents very well with the door cards, headlining, and carpets being in remarkably good condition. The rear seat fabric is excellent and the front seats are good with only slight wear to the fabric on the driver's seat. The rubber floor mats in the front have been replaced with a Wolfsburg West set, the rear ones are original. It even has a rare set of Swedish Klippan dealer fitted seat belts.
The engine and chassis are matching numbers (have original paperwork from Finland to support this). I suspect that this vehicle has covered less than 160, 000km from the overall condition. The 34hp engine performs beautifully and Daisy will cruise happily at 60 to 65mph all day long. Makes a lovely noise through it's original genuine Cartune exhaust tips. The gearchanges are super smooth, and the suspension is very good. Had new front wheel bearings, king and link pins, genuine standard spindles, reset tracking, camber angles all to factory spec last year.
She currently wears a staggered set of Porsche 356 Repro steel wheels, with 4. 5 inch front and 165/ 80 radial tyres, and 5. 5 inch rears with 175/ 80 tyres. Also has an unused spare wheel and tyre to match. Currently has original hubcaps on them. Some pics show without hubcaps if you fancy the Old Speed look. Alternatively you could go back to stock as it has a full set of the original wheels painted in the correct two tone paint scheme, and virtually unused CAMAC cross ply tyres (to be included in the sale).
The underside is all good as the car was treated with Ziebart/ underseal from new which it still wears, and has done it's job well.
In short, this car is a bit of a time warp, and it is a joy to drive and own. It's getting harder to find them in this kind of unrestored condition. Beautiful Pamama Beige original beetle, a really good useable classic VW. Hard to find this original when so many have been restored.
