Description
This Peugeot 205 Rallye is a lightweight classic French hot hatch, recently resprayed and retrimmed. It’s powered by a 1. 3-litre inline-four engine with twin Weber carburetors, producing 103 bhp sent to the front wheels via a close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox. Originally delivered to Spain, this left-hand-drive 205 Rallye was imported into the UK and re-registered in January 2019.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The 205 Rallye was designed to be as light as possible, with minimal soundproofing and comfort features, bringing its weight down to just 794kg. To homologate the car for Group N and Group A rallying, the original 1, 124cc engine from the 205 XR was bored and stroked to 1, 294cc, with a reinforced crankshaft and upgraded camshafts. Other performance upgrades included GTI-spec springs, dampers, and brakes.
This particular 205 Rallye is finished in white, adorned with Peugeot Talbot Sport's multicolored stripes on the front grille, rear panel, sides, and above the side repeaters. Inside, the grey cloth-trimmed cabin features red stitching, carpets, and seatbelts, while the Peugeot Talbot Sport colors are embroidered on the front seats. The car sits on white 13-inch steel wheels with Toyo tires. Other features include wind-down front windows, pop-out rear windows, and manually adjustable door mirrors. The sale includes a folder with Spanish service records, UK import documents, service invoices, and various spare parts like door mirrors, a headlight reflector, and a clutch plate.
CONDITION
The photo gallery provides a detailed look at the car’s exterior and interior condition. Notable points from the seller include a light scratch under the driver’s side wing mirror. The original GRP wheel arches, which had become brittle from sun exposure, were replaced with modern reproductions—although the seller notes these are of lesser quality. The car’s fenders and door mirrors have also been replaced. Upon arriving in the UK, the car was resprayed to address sun fading, and the seats, carpets, and headliner were replaced. The most recent MOT test on April 5, 2024, at 76, 042 kilometers, resulted in a first-time pass with no issues.
SERVICE HISTORY
The last service was completed in April 2024 at 76, 042 kilometers, which included an oil and filter change, a new indicator bulb, wiper blades, and a horn. A prior service in April 2021 at 74, 167 kilometers involved an oil and filter change, new spark plugs, fuel filter, brake fluid, dash bulbs, alternator belt, and offside front steering inner arm. The rear brake shoes were also cleaned and adjusted, and a laser wheel alignment was performed. Another service was carried out in April 2018. During the seller’s ownership, the wing mirrors and fuel lines in the engine bay were replaced. The Peugeot 205 Rallye was launched as a homologation special to enter rally competitions, pairing a lively twin-carbureted inline-four engine with a weight that’s around 100kg lighter than the already svelte 1. 6 GTI. Resprayed, retrimmed, and with a modest 76, 116 kilometers on the clock, this example would be a perfect addition to any hot hatch collection, a thrilling companion for spirited drives, or a standout at any "Cars and Coffee"-type event.
