Description
A very good example of a SE6B which now has historic car status.
Mine since 2017 and extensively restored (though not 'nut and bolt'), including a very expensive (£14k) back to gel coat respray by a fibreglass specialist in Jaguar sapphire blue metallic.
Over £7k spent with QRG on mechanical and electrical restoration.
Over £6k spent on interior re-trim including leather to all seats (front seats are MX5 for comfort) and new headlining.
It is carb model, with the engine understood to have been worked on by Jon Wade around 2002 including replacement of 2800 crank with 2900 crank, lightened and balanced, enhanced oilways, and bored to 2975cc.
4 speed manual with working overdrive.
RSSOC heated screen fitted.
Stainless steel fuel tank.
Alpine bluetooth head unit.
Wheels refurbed in 2020 and new tyres all round. This was an Ebay present from my wife, and represented the 1980's car to go with one from each decade from the 1960's onward that I restored as a hobby.
I had some mechanical and chassis work done locally, before painting started in November 2019. I have declared it as having had major structural work as the front nose cone support and spare wheel tray was corroded, so replaced with new, and new chassis outriggers fitted.
It was at QRG during lockdown in 2020, and I got it back in March 2021.
Its extremely cheap to maintain, and now has historic tax status, but unfortunately I am thinning out the collection as they don't get driven enough for various reasons.
It always turns heads at shows, and appears to be regarded as the next "appreciating classic".
Whilst it has had a lot of effort expended, there is always a list of things to do. At the moment my wish list is:
- Dash crashpad is reupholstered but has the standard ‘curl’ at the edges – I would fix some bolts so it could be attached to the dash. The trimmer fitted an additional finisher to bridge the gap, but I have removed that for the photos.
- The door rubber corner infills are a little tatty
- Detail the engine bay – it is very ‘original’
- Clean and detail the underneath of the car
- The temperature gauge or sender appears to be faulty as the car reads 115 degrees even when operating normally - coolant temperature fine and fan cuts in normally
- Fit braided fuel lines to underside of car
- Upper ball joint gaiters not split but not fully weather tight
- Front offside wheel bearing has minor play emerging
- Electric window switches mismatched and loose (impossible to find the Lucas versions so recommend replacing with modern equivalent)
- Passenger side electric window operates but slightly lazy compared to drivers side
- Fit an inline petrol filter given low mileage means petrol can get stale
- One rubber bump stop missing from bonnet shut panel
- Battery reaching end of life
- Minor stone chips on nearside wing
- Annual paint wax due
