Description

1964 VW Splitscreen SO2 High Roof Sales Flap
A unique opportunity to own one of the rarest VW's on the planet.

Introducing 'Mimi' our 1964 VW Splitscreen SO2 High Roof Sales Flap ice cream van. She was ordered by an ice cream company in 1963 to be an ice cream van. Widely considered to be the last of her kind in existence, still operating as the cornerstone of The Splitscreen Ice Cream Co.
There is believed to be only 10 SO2's left worldwide, with Mimi being the only one that was built as an ice cream van and remains an ice cream van, with all documentation to back this up.

Renovated to a high standard inside and out. Fitted with a holdover freezer, allowing you to serve ice cream all day long without the need of power. Also included inside is a small drinks fridge.

Looking to sell Mimi alongside the business, with everything needed to continue running a successful business, including bookings for 2025, some of which the business has sole concession. The Business includes an 2015 4motion transporter, 1960s Cummings ice cream trailer and a Brian James transporter trailer. Too much to list on here, so please feel free to get in contact for further information.

In addition to all of the above, we have also recently purchased a 1960’s Westfalia sales flap trailer, which is currently in the project stage, allowing the buyer to decide which direction they would like to take this in. There are believed to be only 3 of these left in the world. This could be sold alongside Mimi if required and is not listed within the asking price.
To have both the Splitscreen and the Westy trailer together, makes this one of the rarest collections going.
Fully renovated between 2009 - 2011, and named 'Mimi' after the founders Grandmother, she was back out putting smiles on faces in a field up and down the UK.

Featured in numerous VW magazines and online, as well as working for corporate companies such as Pretty Green Clothing, Clark shoes, The Botanist and Linda McCartney. On screen appearance on The Alan Titchmarsh show and a spot in history featured in Special Species book, showcasing some of the rarest VW's in history. She was Factory ordered in November 1963 and delivered in January 1964, It was out working in the Westfalia area of Germany selling Ice cream from day one.
When it came up for sale in 2009, the founder of The Splitscreen Ice Cream Co beat off competition from the VW Museum to the purchase this van, ensuring it continued to do what it was made for. The van has some unique M-codes, including steering lock and ambulance fans to name a few.
