Description
This delightful Riley RMA looks very smart in black over ivory and is complemented by the very original interior.
The car has been the beneficiary of much recent expenditure to make it pleasant to drive and reliable. There are many invoices on file.
First registered on 1 May 1951, the Riley remained with its first owner until 1980 although laid up in 1964. It was then the subject of a 6 year restoration by Keith Webster of Kidlington, Oxford who retained the car until 2002. Since then the car has been lovingly maintained by a further four owners as shown by the receipts on file.
In 2016 the Riley received a replacement rebuilt engine which had the big ends converted to shell bearings. Being a later engine it features improved rocker gear.
Being an older restoration there are some paintwork faults but the car nevertheless presents extremely well. The interior is largely original save for the carpets and much the better for it while
the brightwork also is in very good condition.
The Riley has been fitted with a new old stock distributor and has also had a carburettor rebuild so starting is instant. Our test drive showed the car to perform well with the rack and pinion steering proving a joy and the hydro mechanical brakes pulling the car up square. The twin high camshaft motor is very well mannered yet provides more than adequate performance.
A quantity of spares accompany the car including lots of useful consumables. The original air cleaner is also present but requires repainting.
All the instruments work save for the temperature gauge but a new sender unit is on its way to us.
New Dunlop tyres are fitted all round.
This is a very nice driving RM with a comprehensive history file including manuals and books.
A video of the car can be viewed on the St Andrews Autos YouTube channel.
We would happily take an interesting vehicle in part exchange.
