Description

Austin Mini Cooper mk2 1969

This mini cooper mk2 has a heritage certificate showing it was produced on the 15th September 1969 & dispatched on the 3rd October 1969 .
The original colour was not recorded on the certificate but I believe it was island blue which is a darker blue & it can be seen under the dash .
The mk2 cooper was a low production car , as it was in a short production run to the mk3 mini.

The wheels I believe are cooper s reverse rims & have the Dunlop sign in a couple , so may be period correct .

The tyres all round have good tread 165/ 10 Yokohama & a spare wheel also to match .

Originally from the factory it had a cooper 998cc but has been upgraded to a 1275cc at some point.
This engine recently had a refurbished head with large valves 12g940 £290. 00 & I do have the original head to keep with the engine.
It runs well and pulls strong , it’s also had a full service , oil & filter including new leads , coil, distributor cap , rotor arm & new plugs .

I do have an original cooper 998 engine with correct gearbox and D pistons as fitted at the time , it would require a rebuild. This will go with the car if my asking price is met , which would allow it to go back to being more original if needed.

It has been upgraded with a new mini alloy radiator & silicone hoses .
Also new front cooper s discs & callipers with new rear shoes & springs fitted.
The brakes perform well for the cars age at 55years old.
The original wet suspension system has been replaced with the dry system, which is also considered an upgrade for a mk1/ mk2 mini.

It’s had at some point new front wings & someone has replaced the inner wing by the radiator with an spi one with an extra electric fan , working via a switch inside.
I’ve not actually needed to use it as it seems to stay at normal temp & I have driven in the heat to shows & day trips through out the summer .
The body does show some rust bubbles in certain areas around the car which I’ve tried to show in the photos & the underneath has been welded over the years . The paint work is still very shiny and overall looks clean with nice bumpers & grill.
The interior is black and the seats are all good condition as are the carpets. The dash has the 100mph speedo that all coopers had fitted showing the gear change in yellow on the speedo dial. It also has a good quality wooden steering wheel with the original Austin centre logo.
Everything works on the car and it has been a joy to recommission back on to the road , visiting shows & day trips over the past few years .

I have taken it to have a mot test to check its all ok and it failed on just to lower arm bushes & advisory for 1 steering gaiter .
I had both replaced & all new bushes for the pair of lower arms and it now has a full years mot .
There are many small bits you can do to keep improving it during the non show events period .
It’s ready to go and be enjoyed, a classic mini is one of the most fun cars to have if you would like to own a classic car
