Description
This is an honest Land Rover Series. Like most Land Rovers it's got lots of scratches and cosmetic faults but the bones are great. In my ownership (since 2020) it's had a new exhaust, head gasket, starter motor, alternator, glow plugs, fuel tank and pump and all new brakes (and brake lines as required). Wheels refurbished and on good year wranglers with loads of life left in them. A few years before I bought the car it had a new clutch and welding/ sealing done to the chassis. More recently it had a 'recommission' service as it was sat in a garage for about 9 months - this included steering wheel bearings, rocker cover gasket, wheel bearings, a full deep service (including gearbox oil, axles etc.) and the usual knick knack bits like a couple of new hoses etc. The brief was essentially 'sort anything you think needs sorting' - This came to £1300. The speedo actually isn't working so I suspect the speedo cable was not put back correctly after the mechanic had the dash out for steering. The cable is only about two years old.
The car is definitely not in a restored or pristine condition and the old diesel engine smokes on start until the engine has warmed up and when idling for long periods (the mechanic that had it recently actually suspects this is over fuelling) but it is absolutely in a drivable condition - I would feel confident driving it daily or on a long drive. The four wheel drive and high/ low all works (had it off-roading before and it out performed modern discos) and the car has free wheeling front hub.
It's priced to go and to reflect that you're not buying a perfect car but something solid. I'm selling as I cannot keep it in the garage it used to be kept in anymore and I cannot get a permit by my house. It has a limestone (same as wheels) hard topped blue back door (no windows so legally classed as a van on V5) but it was pretty much only driven in summer so in winter it just stayed without its roof in a garage.
