Rewarding restoration project
Starts, runs, drives and brakes

The Series III Land Rover, produced from 1971 to 1985, is a significant chapter in the rich history of Land Rover vehicles. It succeeded the Series 2A and introduced several improvements, including a more comfortable interior with better seating and instrumentation. Externally, the Series 3 retained the iconic rugged look but featured a plastic grille and upgraded lighting. Mechanically, it was equipped with a fully synchromesh gearbox, enhancing drivability. Available in a variety of body styles, from the basic utility model to more refined station wagons, the Series 3 was versatile and durable, cementing its reputation in both civilian and military use worldwide. Its legacy lives on as a classic example of Land Rover's enduring commitment to reliability and off-road capability.

This particular '88' example is being sold as a project, notwithstanding the fact the vendor drove it to our premises from his home. The file has plenty of receipts for work and parts back to 2004 although there are no recent receipts. In addition, we have some previous MOT certificates that appear to back up the mileage presently showing, 2 x Haynes repair manuals, Land Rover maintenance manual, and some assorted leaflets. The is also a small wallet containing pictures of the Land Rover.

We understand the Land Rover is running a Perkins Prima diesel engine in place of the original engine, plus parabolic springs, and free wheeling hubs. Inertia seat belts also feature.

One of the fuel lines appears to leak under pressure so this will also need attending to as part of the recommissioning process, and the floors certainly need work. The rear cross member appears to be galvanised.

Overall, a great opportunity to improve a Series 3 Landie offered at no reserve.
